Better Programming

A note on equity, equality, and our editorial pipeline

Better Programming is a publication where everyone is welcome to write, to read, to learn, and to participate, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, the language they speak, body shape, disabilities, or any label that someone may place on another person.

In order to make space for, and give more of a voice to, under-represented people in technology, a minimum of 1/3 of the articles we publish daily will be written by women and non-binary authors.

Further, we are actively working to increase the number of articles we publish that are written by people of color.

This is incredibly important to us at Better Programming.

This may mean that we delay publishing your article for several days while we ensure better author representation on Better Programming. We trust that you will understand as we create more space for voices that currently, and unfortunately, aren't heard as often.

We recognize that we have the power to make a difference here, and we are striving to do so.

Tell me more about the editorial pipeline

Better Programming has 15 professional copy editors who edit each article that we accept. We limit the number of articles we publish every day so as to not overwhelm Medium readers' feeds.

How many articles do we publish each day?

We've found in our experience that quality over quantity works best on Medium. We publish 18 articles per day, on average. Publishing more doesn't help you, the author, or Better Programming as a publication. We continue to learn and experiment with what works best on Medium over time.

When do we publish?

We publish Monday through Friday and are based in New York City, so please consider timezones when inquiring about your article. We don't publish on weekends as Medium traffic dips by about 33% and we want your article to perform the best that it can.
